Finally, An Adjustable Bed Worth Raving About!
One of the things I love about reviewing mattresses is seeing how the industry innovates and finds new ways to offer people a better sleep.
The Saatva Solaire mattress is one of these amazing innovations. It’s a unique adjustable airbed mattress created for couples and features a customizable firmness option so anyone can enjoy it!
Sounds promising? Let’s take a look at what makes this mattress so different from all the others and whether this is something you can enjoy for yourself in this Saatva Solaire mattress review.
Breaking Down the Layers
This is a premium, 13.5-inch thick, airbed, and foam mattress that allows you to adjust its firmness. Using a remote control, you can calibrate the settings (inflate and deflate) according to your preferred level of comfort and support.
First Layer:
A 1-inch layer of Talalay Latex. The topmost layer is the hypoallergenic Talalay latex with five-zone support. This layer is added to provide both comfort and support on your lumbar region and other pressure points to improve the quality of your sleep.
Second Layer:
A 2-inch CertiPUR-US Gel Memory Foam. This serves as a contouring support layer. Because it’s memory foam, it has a slow response to pressure and motion, so you can expect more evident sinkage compared to other mattresses. This also helps relieve pressure and doesn’t let you sleep hot.
Third Layer:
A unique Moisture Barrier layer. This helps eliminate dampness and condensation, preventing moisture from accumulating and keeping bacteria growth.
Fourth Layer:
A layer of Air Chambers. The fourth layer is the vulcanized air chamber, which allows you to adjust the firmness level to correspond to your preference. The number of air chambers varies according to the size. The twin XL and the full include one air chamber, the bigger versions have two chambers.
Fifth Layer:
A Reinforced Power Edge Enclosure. For amplified support, the power edge enclosure is added beneath the four layers mentioned on the list. This last layer also provides the ideal edge support.
All in the Cover
Topping the five layers of the Saatva Solaire mattress is the organic 100% cotton pillow cover. This 3-inch Euro pillow top cover functions as an auxiliary comfort and support to boost your sleep quality.
It’s also designed to be breathable to keep you cooler through the night and it’s treated with Guardin, a botanical treatment to prevent bacteria and mold growth.
How Does It Perform
I find the adjustable firmness settings helpful since you can get the exact comfort you need for the type of sleeper that you are. The Solaire Precision Adjustable Air features 50 different firmness settings ranging from soft to firm. These are easily modified using a handy remote control.
For the larger sizes, there is an option to purchase the split models. This means there are two remote controls available on each side of the airbed. With this, the sleeper can fully adjust the firmness level on the side of the mattress.
Honestly, it will take a bit of time to inflate because you can’t inflate both air chambers at the same time. The upside is if you are sleeping with a loved one and you are two different types of sleepers and have contrasting comfort preferences, you both can get what you want.
Furthermore, the Saatva Solaire’s motion isolation is pretty good and the edge support is incredible.

Saatva Solaire Mattress Review – Mattress Performance Breakdown
Comfort and Pressure Relief
Despite your choice of firmness, it offers a good amount of comfort and pressure relief as the layers easily conform to the shoulders and hips. There’s a firm setting best fit for your sleeping position.
A firmer setting of above level 40 is great for stomach sleepers while side sleepers might want to set the level to around 20-30. For back sleepers, a level of firmness between 20-40 is pretty good.
Firmness
This is where the mattress shines. It offers up to 50 firmness options via remote, so it can go from soft to absolutely firm. On a scale, it can go from a 4 to 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
Smell or Off-Gassing
The company ships their foams stable so they’re usually given time to air out before being placed inside the mattresses. This means there’s little to no smell from the synthetic foam. What’s more, there’s hardly any synthetic foam used here, adding to the minimal odor. Just air it out for a day in a ventilated room and you should be fine.
Bounciness
Since you can control the firmness level of the mattress, it can provide great traction, especially for sex. The latex also offers a good amount of bounce, something couples will also enjoy.
Edge Support
Thanks to the air chambers around the polyfoam, there’s great edge support on this bed. It’s even got better edge support compared to regular foam beds available in the market since it won’t collapse when you sit down or roll towards the edge of the bed.
Motion Transfer
There’s little to average motion transfer on the Saatva Solaire mattress. It’s great for isolating movement especially since both sides have customizable firmness levels, it’s easier to control the level of movement transferred from one side to the other.
Sleeps Cool
This mattress sleeps cool thanks to the Talalay latex and cooling gel memory foam layer included. Because of this, you can count on the Solaire as one of the best cooling mattresses out there.
The Final Verdict
So far, I like my experience with the Saatva Solaire mattress. This type of adjustable mattress is a bit new for me, but I am enjoying it thus far. It is a great choice for couples since the two sides can be adjusted separately, making sleep a little more peaceful if you’re with a restless sleeper. With its 50 firmness settings, it can work for any type of sleeper with any body type.
Although the company states on their website the mattress sleep cool, I didn’t actually feel it made a difference in the temperature and by the looks of it, there is not much room for airflow, so I’ll say it’s not really a good choice for hot sleepers.
Another important point to consider is the price. For those who are on a tight budget, this mattress might not be the best choice. It is on the pricey side, but given its functions and capabilities, I believe it can be a good investment.
Overall, I would still recommend the mattress. It’s clearly made from high-quality materials that won’t wear out easily. The design is superb, and the features are advanced in a way that won’t intimidate users. The controls are easy to use and fully adjustable to your liking, I highly recommend it to those who are particular with the firmness of their mattress and also for couples who have distinct or opposite preferences.
