The Avenco Silence mattress is one of the most popular mattresses in the Avenco Home series. Since starting in 2017, the company has added more mattress varieties to cater to a wide range of sleepers. 

Avenco Home currently offers the Hybrid Spring Mattress, which includes their Original Hybrid Series and the Zone Hybrid Series.

Meanwhile, their Memory Foam Mattress includes their Silence Series and their Starry Series. Finally, they have an Air Mattress line which includes their Portable Mattress. 

I’ll be testing out the Avenco Silence 12” Mattress for this review. This is a memory foam mattress made for comfort and to cater to different types of sleepers. 

Let’s take a close look at what makes this mattress so different from the others in the market.

Breaking Down the Layers

Like the other Avenco series, you get a choice of a 10-inch version or a 12-inch version. The difference between the two is the thickness of the memory foam and polyfoam as well as the firmness of the mattresses. 

First Layer:  

A 3-inch thick gel-infused, open-cell memory foam layer. This creates support and comfort, as it conforms to the shape of your body while sleeping. With its open cell structure and gel infusion, it also allows for a good amount of airflow. 

Second Layer: 

A 2-inch thick transitional polyfoam. This offers extra cushioning and support for the upper memory foam layer. While it is soft enough to allow you to sink a bit, it is also dense enough to prevent sleepers from sinking into the mattress. 

Third & Fourth Layer:

A 3.5-inch high-density AirWave polyfoam. This is the same for both the 10-inch and 12-inch versions. It has an egg-crate shape designed to improve airflow as well as ventilation. The foam is also dense enough to provide a strong base.  

All in the Cover

The cover material is made from a stretch knit fabric and it’s the same for both versions of the mattress. This fabric is soft but it’s a strong enough material to offer breathability. It’s great for wicking away heat from the body and is composed of both an inner and outer fabric.  

The outer white fabric creates plushness when you sleep while the inner gray fabric creates a cooling effect against your skin.   

How Does It Perform

When it comes to deciding which mattress to get, you need to take into account your sleeping position and your weight so you get the most out of your mattress. 

The Avenco Silence 12” mattress features a soft to medium firmness level. This would be about a 4.5 out of 10.  

This mattress is ideal for side sleepers weighing under 200 pounds. It’s thick enough to offer a layer of support to your body’s pressure points like the shoulders and hips. Meanwhile, the contouring from the memory foam would help reduce pressure while keeping the spine aligned.  

Since it’s an all-foam mattress, those above 230 pounds will tend to sink further into the mattress which can become uncomfortable.

Avenco Silence 12 Mattress – Performance Breakdown 

Comfort 

Designed for comfort and pressure relief, the Avenco Silence 12” mattress is great if you want something that contours to your body and provides extra cushioning on the hips and shoulders. The 12-inch version is better for comfort and pressure relief because of the thicker memory foam. 

Firmness

Those who enjoy a mattress with soft to medium firmness will enjoy the Avenco Silence. If you’re under 230 pounds, this firmness level is ideal since you don’t easily sink into the foam.  

Smell or Off-Gassing

There is a slight smell when you first open the box. This “new mattress smell” is pleasant for some but unpleasant for others. Luckily, it’s not harmful. The smell does dissipate after several days, sometimes faster, if the room has good ventilation. 

Bounciness 

There’s little to no bounce to the mattress. Memory foam mattresses take on the compressed form of the body before rebounding to its original shape. This means it would take more effort to move on the surface since your body would sink a bit further, thus producing little bounce.  

Edge Support

Edge support isn’t good with most foam mattresses, and it’s no different with the Avenco Silence. If you sit on the edge, the mattress will tend to sink. This is especially true in the 12-inch mattress version compared to the 10-inch since it has a thicker, softer foam. 

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is above average for this mattress. Memory foam is known for pinpoint compression so it only reacts where pressure is applied. It also takes time to go back to its original shape.

Hence, memory foam beds are great for isolating movement. This makes the mattress ideal if you’re sleeping beside a partner and don’t want to be disturbed when there’s movement.

Sleeps Cool

Even though memory foam technology has come a long way, the Avenco Silence 12-inch mattress still tends to sleep hot. By nature, memory foam hugs the body so it can still build some heat or warmth despite the open cell construction of the memory foam.

As a soft to medium-firm mattress, the Avenco Silence 12” mattress is ideal for side sleepers. It features an all-foam construction, primarily from memory foam which is great for providing comfort as well as pressure relief. 

The foam hugs the body, cushioning sharp points like the hips and shoulders. This aids in spine alignment while cradling all these pressure points. The same construction also makes the mattress great for isolating motion when sleeping right next to a partner.
