Tuft and Needle Mattress Review
Tuft and Needle is a relatively new online company that’s got something up their sleeve. If you’re curious about what they have to offer, this Tuft and Needle mattress review should prove useful.
Breaking Down the Foam Layers:
Unlike Casper, Leesa or Loom & Leaf mattresses, Tuft & Needle isn’t comprised of more than 3 layers of foam. In fact, they do away with the traditional memory foam, latex or Avena foam found in their competitors, and settled with a 3-inch foam purposefully created to their specifications.
The top layer is the 3-inch foam, which provides the comfort and firmness you’ve come to expect in any high quality bed. Meanwhile, the bottom layer is a 7-inch support foam. Both are certified by CertiPUR-US and made from what they say are “the finest quality materials.”
All of this foam is covered in a simple white, textured rayon and polyester mix cover. The texture feels great while the Tuft and Needle logos are prominently displayed all around the mattress. Every part of it is made in the United States.
Now for the nitty gritty.
Tuft & Needle mattresses lean towards the firmer side of the firmness spectrum. On a scale of 1 to 10, it would be around a 7. Support for your back and pressure points are available the moment you lie down on it. But despite being on the firm side, there’s softness and comfort for your body, as well.
Heating and cooling with this mattress is another great point. Essentially, the foam in the bed is designed to keep you cool while also pulling away the heat from your body. By minimizing the foam layers, the heat is navigated to the bottom area of the foam with complete ease.
I’d have to say, if you like your mattresses to hug you at night, you should look to either the Casper or Leesa instead. Don’t expect any ‘hug’ when you sleep on the Tuft & Needle mattress. In fact, it’s designed so you remain buoyant on the mattress instead of sinking into it. Surprisingly, this is quite comfortable, as well. Also, motion transfer is non-existent with this one, so it’s great for light sleepers and/or couples.
Pricing is where I think the Tuft & Needle mattress excels. It’s actually offered on the cheaper scale, starting at $350 for a twin. In fact, I’m surprised that for the quality of the mattress, the company can give it away for such a good deal. There’s even 100-day trial period. If the mattress isn’t making you happy, they won’t ask you to ship it back, but instead will ask you to find a local charity or recycling center so it can be donated. You’ll just have to show them the receipt and they’ll refund you.
Overall, the Tuft & Needle mattress is designed for someone who doesn’t like extremely soft or brick-like mattresses. If you appreciate firmness but also want a light buoyant feel when lying down, then go for this one.
For the quality and the affordable price, you really can’t beat the Tuft & Needle bed.
What Others Say:
Coming from a 4+ year old innerspring mattress, this is obviously an upgrade. No more jerky movements, squeaking and uneven spring wear. I purchased the “ten” model from the site. Unboxing wasn’t too difficult. The box was practically falling apart on arrival which is understandable for a 65lb noodle shaped object. The plastic wrap was fully intact. Upon removing, the mattress had already begun to take shape. The odor was noticeable at first but quickly dissipated. It looked fully inflated as soon as it was out, but I still gave it 2 hrs.
As a matter of personal preference, I do like the firmness. The top is soft enough providing an inch or so give to find your sleeping groove, but firm enough for even support and ease to get up and out. Definitely no motion transfer here like before. On the 30 day trial, so hopefully by the end my body is so fully rested it won’t let me think about returning this.Pete
I’d like to make it clear up front that I have returned this mattress as it was a bit too firm for me. However, I’m only subtracting 1 star because everything else about the purchasing process, the delivery, the mattress quality, and ultimately, the return process was worthy of 5 stars.Sarah
