The year 2014 saw the online mattress industry boom from out of nowhere. Suddenly, store hopping and spending thousands of dollars on store bought mattresses became an alternative instead of the only option for mattress buyers. And 2019 is not different at all. Two of the most prominent online mattress companies today include Casper and GhostBed. These two offer similar but strikingly different mattresses you can enjoy. Detailed Comparison of Casper vs GhostBed Mattress:
Top Cover
Casper: Two-tone cover with white surface and grey sides. The soft white fabric being stretchy, soft and breathable, but it can be delicate and will tear easily if mattress isn’t handled with care when moving. It’s very thin. Update: New cover is much more sturdy!
Ghostbed: Top portion of the cover is made from 100% polyester while the sides are a blend of polyester and polypropylene. Cover is very soft, thicker, stretchy and breathable. A crisscrossing quilted stitch runs all around the cover which makes it more durable.
Foam Layers
Casper 12-inches total, uses 4 layers: top layer is 1.5-inch poly foam creating a cool surface. Second layer is 1.5-inch memory foam with support and pressure relief. Third layer is the 1.5-inch support foam and the last bottom is 7-inch foam support and base layer. Casper carries up to 450 lbs of weight, as they mention in their website.
Ghostbed total 11-inches uses 4 layers: Top layer is 1.5-inch of aerated latex foam; middle layer is 2-inch of gel memory foam; and bottom layer is 7.5-inch of high-density support foam. This design of the mattress gives the extra support and durability and carries up to 750 lbs of weight.
Firmness
Casper mattress provides medium firmness, offering what most sleepers require in a mattress. The Casper feel does differ depending on the weight of the sleeper. The heavier the weight, the greater the sinkage.
Ghostbed feels slightly firmer at first but still capable of meeting various sleepers’ standards. Initial contact will make it feel like it’s firm but after you settle; it softens up as the foam conforms to your body.
Body Support
Both mattresses offer good amount of support thanks to the similar foam construction layers. Sinkage for the Casper is higher. Lying down on the Casper gives you more hug as the foam almost instantly moves according to your pressure points, giving your body support.
Ghostbed provides full body support for different sleeping positions. Foam softens up after you settle but does a great job of maintaining good support and relieving pressure points.
Motion Transfer
Like the Ghostbed, the Casper offers very minor motion transfer. If you use the Casper mattress as a couple, you would hardly feel anything when your partner moves around or gets up.
Ghostbed has very minimal motion transfer as well, thanks to its latex and memory foam construction. Expect to have some additional bounce with the mattress as well.
