Casper launched in April 2014 by Philip Krim (previously of The Merrick Group, angelbeds.com, tranquilitymattress.com and SleepBetterStore.com), Neil Parikh, T. Luke Sherwin, Jeff Chapin (previously of R&D at IDEO mattress company), and Gabriel Flateman.

In January 2014, the company raised $1.85 million in its first round of funding. The round was led by Lerer Ventures and Norwest Ventures and also included funding from Crosslink Partners, Vaizra Investments, and Correlation Ventures.

On April 22, 2014, they officially launched, selling $1 million worth of product in the first 28 days. In August 2014, an additional $13.1 million was received in Series A funding, including investments from New Enterprise Associates, Ron Conway’s SV Angel, Ashton Kutcher’s firm, A-Grade Investments, fashion designer Steven Alan, Queensbridge Venture Partners, and the investment group of musical artist Nas.

In November 2014, Casper expanded its delivery from the contiguous United States to include Canada.

Led by Institutional Venture Partners, the company raised $55 million Series B venture funding in June 2015. The Series B funding included participation from celebrity investors: Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Scooter Braun, Adam Levine, and Pritzker Group Venture Capital.

Led by Target Corporation, the company raised $170 Million in Series C Funding in June 2017. The Series C funding included participation from Tresalia, Institutional Venture Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, and Irving Investors. 

In April 2018, they partnered with American Airlines to design pillows, blankets and other products for the airline’s passengers. They also announced later in April that they would be opening up a Canadian office in Toronto, along with a manufacturing facility in the country.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Sleep on your sheets, chill on your pillow, dream on your mattress (whether you are human or hound) — you can try all the products in the comfort of your home for 100 nights from the day you receive them.

This post-purchase, risk-free 100-night trial serves as their return policy. If you decide your Casper mattress, foundation or base aren’t for you, they’ll send a courier over to remove the product from your home and either donate it to a local charity or have it recycled.

With all other products, they’ll provide you with a prepaid UPS label for you to ship your product back to Casper free of charge.

Either way, your original form of payment will be refunded 100 percent. Please note that with financed orders, interest paid is not refunded.

Delivery and Shipping

Casper’s products typically ship out of their respective facilities via UPS 1-2 business days after you place your order and then take between 1-5 business days in transit to arrive at your door. To streamline production, different products may ship from different facilities, meaning multi-product shipments may not always arrive together. Once your product ships, you’ll receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number. Additionally, more remote areas in Canada may take additional delivery time.

If you’ve opted into their in-home delivery and setup, the ETA of your products depends on where you are located. Most zip codes will take 3-5 business days to arrive. In parts of New York City and Los Angeles, you can get your mattress as early as the same day (so long as you check out before 3 PM).

CASPER Mattress Return Policy

If you decide that your Casper products aren’t right for you within 100 nights, the return process is easy.

For smaller items, visit the return center. From there, you’ll print a prepaid shipping label and drop the box off at UPS. Provided the items are received in donatable condition, Casper Mattress will process a full refund once they receive them back at their facility.

For larger items, please contact Casper. Agents will work with you to arrange a pickup through a local charity or recycling partner and refund you in full.

Refunds will be credited back to your account within two weeks.
